Live Simply - recycling electrical goods
We all know how important re-cycling is for protecting our environment and the council collects most materials every week (or so).
-
However, electrical materials need special treatment. They typically contain hazardous materials which can cause pollution and item like batteries which can caise fires.
-
In the UK we discard about £488 million of copper, lithium and aluminium every year. Re-cycling these saves money and decreases the need for destructive mining. These materials can be used to improve our energy and healthcare systems and all those high-tech gadgets.
-
Every year recycling electricals in the UK could:
-
Cut as much CO2 as removing 3.8 million cars from the roads.
-
Save £850 million of precious metals.
-
Create jobs in re-use and recycling.
-
-
Most of us have old electrical items which we would like to get rid of but what's the best way to do it?
We are providing a drop-off point for your old bits of tech.
-
Small items which are no longer needed, still in working order and in a saleable condition will be given to the Wood Green Animal Shelter for sale in their charity shop.
-
(If they cannot be sold then they'll be recycled.)
-
-
Other items will be taken directly to a recycling centre.
-
There will be a special box for batteries and bulbs.
-
Please ensure that any smart phones/tablets/PCs have all personal data removed from them.
