Children’s Liturgy and Children’s Masses

Held each term-time Sunday, Children’s Liturgy is celebrated in the Church Hall during the 11:15  Mass. We take a single group of children who are Pre-school (3-5 years) up to Year 2 out of Mass each Sunday. The group runs through a simplified version of the Mass theme for that Sunday. Then the group does activities based on the theme which may include art, craft and music. The group is led by adult members of the Parish.

Once a term, we hold a Children’s Mass where children participate fully, reading the Penitential Rite, First Reading, Responsorial Psalm, Bidding Prayers and contributing art work. Each Christmas Eve the children participate in a Children’s Christmas Mass where they contribute by reading the Christmas Story and the Bidding Prayers.

Children’s Classes on the Catholic Faith

The majority of our children attend their own village primary schools and the community therefore provides religious instruction for primary school children from age 6 upwards.  A key aim of the classes is the first of two years of preparation for First Holy Communion. Children in Year 2 who are due to take their First Holy Communion in Year 3 are expected to attend the classes.

In the Classes on the Catholic Faith the children learn how to apply bible knowledge and the teaching of the church into their daily lives.

For details please see section Holy First Communion
